Sisters and Brothers,
It is with deep regret that Division 747 informs you of the peaceful
passing of our brother Lance Mugford, affectionately known as "Muggy."
At this time, no details regarding a service are available.
Old School Railroader With Heart
Muggy had a long career on the railway with CN, Bombardier and Via.
Muggy was the consummate old school railroader with a grumpy and gruff
exterior and a very warm and gentle heart if he let you see it. He
trained a lot of engineers in his time, and while he would chew you out
he would also explain later why we have to take the job as serious as we
do. When he said he went backwards over more ties than you went forward
on them he probably wasn’t exaggerating. I personally had some memorable
trips with him, and will always remember the response he gave me when I
told him I saw his picture driving the last spike in the railway and
wondering if he still had the stove pipe hat, and I know many people
have a similar story about Muggy’s humor.
The membership of Division 747 wants to pass our deepest condolences to
the Mugford family in this time of loss. High ball Muggy, all your
lights are green now.
