Division 747 represents a group of engineers consisting of approximately 150 members who operate high speed passenger trains for VIA Rail Canada Inc. throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec.
Division
747 was originally formed to represent BLE members working at the time
for the Canadian National Railways out of its Mimico Yard In order to
better serve the needs of a number of members of Division 70 who were
currently working for Via Rail, Division 747 was re-established by a
Charter granted on March 1, 1997.
This distinction between members working for CN Rail and Via Rail has helped each division to focus their attentions more clearly on the various Labour and Health and Safety issues which are presented uniquely by these two companies.
Division 747 meeting are held on the second Monday of the month at 12:00. Meetings are held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 3850 Lakeshore Road. West, Etobicoke, Ontario.
The
Teamsters union represents 125,000 Canadians, over 16,000 of those members
work in the rail industry and are represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail
Conference. We have become an unavoidable collective bargaining partner
for the two major rail carriers in Canada, Canadian National and Canadian
Pacific as well as the majority of the short lines in Canada. The
Teamsters union is the major negotiating partner in the Canadian rail
industry. Canadian railway workers have chosen us because they know that
we have the necessary resources and know-how to ensure their adequate
representation. Our leading positions in the union movement, our active
participation and our devotion to our members have become a magnet for all
those who are poorly represented unionized or not unionized at all.
