Obituary

BUCHAN, BRYAN ANDREW Bryan Buchan, 57, passed away suddenly on July 13, 2020. He was born in North York, the youngest child of the late Alexander and Erma (nee Neil) Buchan. Loving brother of Brenda (Jim Howard) and Bruce. Uncle to Shannon (Sean Tucker), Jennifer (Tom Ryan), Andrea (Nate Gibbons) and John. Proud father of Darby 3.0 his trusted Golden Retriever. Bryan, retired from the railway in April 2018 after serving 36 years with CN Rail, GO and Via. He will be missed by his close network of friends and co-workers.

His passion was spending time at the cottage with family and friends. Bryan’s kind heart and giving nature touched the lives of many people with acts of kindness and always willing to help out in so many ways.

His practical jokes and dry sense of humour were the stories of legends, not to mention his never-ending supply of interesting T-shirts and Hats that became his trademark. Many stories about Bryan will be told around tables, campfires or fishing boats for years to come, probably with a cold drink or two in your hand. We will see ya on the other side Bryan, and hopefully not too soon.

Private visitation and funeral service are being held at the Marshall Funeral Home in Richmond Hill by invitation only, due to COVID-19. The services will be available for livestream with details to be added shortly. A public celebration of Life will be held for Bryan in the future with a date to be determined.

In lieu of Flowers, Memorial donations to The Canadian Blood Services

We will see ya on the other side Bryan!

Sisters and Brothers, It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Brother Bryan Buchan.

What could you say about Mr. Buchan? Bryan was a jokester but a serious railroader. Never a fan of used car salesmen, even keeled and just wanted to do his job and “get to the finish line” with CN, GO and finally Via rail.

Anyone lucky enough to train with Bryan probably smoked or was a young hogger, and they learned how to do things from a professional. He had some criteria as his mates could attest too. His practical jokes and reverser handles were the stories of legends, not to mention that retirement T-shirt...

If he pulled a joke on you or were lucky enough to receive a custom handle he thought you were ok.

Bryan was a friend and co-worker to many of us and we will not forget his sense of humor, his professionalism and friendship. Many stories about Bryan will be told around tables, campfires or fishing boats for years to come, probably with a cold drink or two in your hand. We will see ya on the other side Bryan, just don’t switch the road signs on us, though you would probably get a kick out of doing it...
